Google Drive: One Step Closer to World Domination?
After reading a hilarious and ominous discussion on the purportedly planned Google Drive in Techcrunch, it made me think that this brings Google closer to actual world domination. Based on a presentation they posted on the web (and was later removed):
With infinite storage, we can house all user files …
…it will help us make the client less important …
… storing 100% of a user’s data makes each piece of data more valuable …
… and in the end all your data belongs to Google. Imagine a single system knowing everything about you. Having access to all you data. Responsible for all your computing. What does this bring to mind? Isaac Asimov’s Multivac (and its decendants Galactic AC, Universal AC and Cosmic AC). “Google can humanity reverse the increase in entropy and drive towards chaos?” — two computer technicans.
But, seriously, what is the use of infinite storage without the corresponding amount of bandwidth to move this stuff around? Oh my!
