PLDT.com Row Ends
In a PH-Cyberview posting (full article in Manila Standard), Chin Wong reveals that the PLDT.com row has finally been resolved.
THE Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. has quietly settled its landmark lawsuit against maverick Web site owner Gerry Kaimo over the rights to the PLDT.com domain name, ending an expensive six-year legal battle.
Visitors who go to www.pldt.com expecting to find Kaimo’s satirical site will be directed instead to a new address with one line: “In line with some admin changes, this site will be moved to www.kaimo.com.”
Well, Gerry has not been writing much about PLDT in PLDT.com lately. Currently, it is more political writing than anything else. Also, PLDT is not pushing is strong metering drive anymore. Maybe, this is because their Metered Landline Service is not getting much traction? Added to this, Landlines seem to be quickly becoming a thing of the past with telcos making VoIP plays.
Gerry even makes a comment:
Every time they show up there (in court), it costs thousands, which they charge to PLDT, which passes it on to the subscriber. The loser is the PLDT subscriber.
He is probably tired of it already. But, nice work Gerry in keeping our local calls unmetered. I would hate to imagine local calls charged a pence per pulse.
