Microsoft Readies GDrive Competitor
Looks like Microsoft is trying to compete with Google in the online application space. First, Microsoft releases its web initiative called Live.com. Now Microsoft Watch reports that Microsoft is working on a new service called Live Drive (as part of their Microsoft Live.com suite of online applications).
The MSN team is working on a new Windows Live service, code-named Live Drive, that will provide users with a virtual hard drive for storing hosted personal data …
… projects are focused on delivering “infinite storage” and “infinite bandwidth …
This solution is one of the products of the Microsoft Robinswood meeting with Ray Ozzie, Microsoft’s new strategist responsible for helping the company out of its current slump, in charge.
Currently, as far as I know, there is no solution that fullfills the vision of infinite storage and bandwidth. The closest one is Gmail with a filesystem plugin. Gmail users do not have bandwidth restrictions and diskspace just keeps on growing. It would be interesting if we could see how Google, Microsoft or anybody else would implement this as a fully web-based solution (no plug-in required). This makes sense as once you control your user’s data you definitely control your users.

As an additional note it looks like this might be release before Google’s GDrive. Will Google allow itself to be beat in its own game?
