Yahoo Tech: Web 2.0 Yahoo Style
Techcrunch has this article about the release of Yahoo Tech.
Yahoo Tech launched tonight, taking clear aim at the massively popular CNET Reviews property.
The best way to get a quick understanding of the site is to take the tour, also linked from the home page. Yahoo Tech is providing content about technology products from Yahoo Shopping, Yahoo Answers, in house experts, and third party sources like Consumer Reports.
Product reviews can be accessed via a tag cloud or the search bar. Yahoo Tech includes product reviews, how to guides and other content. Yahoo Tech also has four resident bloggers to give product advice to different customer segments.
This looks like a sincere attempt at releasing a compeling Web 2.0 application by Yahoo. It uses a tagging system to categorize products and a lot of AJAX in the front page. It’s advertising is nicely out of the way. It also has some editorial control (via resident bloggers) to ensure a bit of quality. It also has the ability to store my shopping and searching history which is quite useful. This won’t make the privacy nuts happy tho. I personally like the convinience of having three (3) Yahoo projects all in one.
