Web 2.0 Shopping Spree

Companies seems to be enamoured by Web 2.0 firms these days. There is Yahoo buying out flckr.com. There is Fox buying out Myspace.com. Then there is Google buying a whole wack of Web 2.0 companies. The lastest is Google’s collection is the cool flash-based mashup called Gtalkr.com. Techcrunch ran this article on Gtalker yesterday stating:

I just got word that Denver-based Gtalkr shut down yesterday and the founders, brothers Wes and Dudley Carr, have taken jobs at Google.

Gtalkr was a really cool Flash desktop/homepage tool that integrated gmail, gtalk and Yahoo maps (Yahoo has a Flash API, Google doesn’t). It launched in November 2005 and had a significant feature update in February. I’m sad to see it go, Gtalkr was one of my favorite app

After hearing Google having difficulty integrating a number of acquisitions (such as Blogger), I just hope these big companies are able to monetize their Web 2.0 investments really soon or it will become Dotcom Bust 2.0.
