Mobile Data Revenues?!?!?!
Well, the future of mobile phone revenue is definitely with mobile data. Here is some new statistics that were obtained during the recently concluded CTIA:
US mobile data revenues are starting to look rosy. US operators scored a cool $6.5 billion in mobile data revenues for the first half of 2006, with over 12 billion SMS sent in June alone, and over 1 billion MMS in the same month.
As Mobile-Weblog comments, 1 billion MMS is definitely surprising. 12 billion SMS is a large number but that is nothing compared to the 1.5 billion SMS sent in the Philippines daily. That translates to at least 45 billion SMS message per month! Mobile data is definitely the way to go! Now, if only the Philippine market got into other higher mobile data services such as MMS, mobile email and others.

btw, 1.5 billion messages per day is a very very very conservative estimate.
