Microsoft and Zend: Kiss of death for ASP?
Probably not. However, I am pleased that both companies are making moves to improve PHP performance in MS Windows. PHP is definitely king when it comes to ease of use webscripting for both Unix and MS Windows platforms alike. However, PHP has never really performed well in the MS Windows platform. Hopefully, this new partnership changes that. Here is the full story from Reuters.
Twelve-year-old PHP runs on more than 22 million Web sites and is used inside 15,000 companies. Technical improvements by Zend and Microsoft to make it easier to run PHP on Windows computers will be available to PHP’s active base of contributors for further enhancement, starting in the first quarter of 2007.
This is a good move for both sides and will reap bountiful rewards for end-users. I personally feel that people should not really worry about the operating system. In the end, it is the applications (like PHP) that matter.
