Flash Lite Book Out!
Finally, after a few months in the market and a lot of momentum driving it, a Flash Lite book is finally out. Unfortunately, I do not have a copy yet but I plan to get one (by hook or by crook). The book is entitled “Foundation Flash Applications for Mobile Devices (Foundation)” by Weyert de Boer, Scott Janousek and Richard Leggett. The book has not been released yet but you can pre-order it from Amazon already.
Here is a summary from Amazon:
Wireless developers have sought an integrated platform that allows them to create commercial content for cell-phones, PDAs, and any other mobile device. Now Flash and its low-power-device-optimized cousin, Flash Lite, allows the creation of applications, games, and animation.
Development times are slashed with Flash. The reward is a rapid and flexible workflow. Flash provides scalable vector graphics for any size screen size. Flash incorporates a variety of media formats, such as MP3, MIDI, JPG, and PNG. Flash is the perfect choice for wireless development given that device abilities can vary substantially.
This book is for anyone wishing to learn how to implement Flash applications on mobile devices, including Flash and J2ME. It discusses the pluses and minuses of this platform. But its focus is to show how Flash surpasses J2ME for a superior rich user experience.
I personally feel that Flash Lite has promise in the mobile space. I particularly feel strongly about having Flash Lite replacing J2ME in the development of games and interface applications. J2ME instead can focus on more interaction with the phone and richer interactivity. Flash can focus on interfaces.
More information about the book can be found in this blog.
