Major Cable Network Outage Cripples Philippine Internet!
No blogs for the past few days? Well, here is an email snippet describing our recent Internet connectivity-related problems.
Several International cable facilities specifically APCN2 and its secondary route - have experienced major cable breaks due to the recent earthquake in Taiwan measuring 7.2 in the Richter scale. As a result of this, majority of our services with international connectivity have been seriously affected and are currently unavailable.
Presently, the international consortium operating the cable system has already mobilized cable ships to repair the affected segments of APCN2, and restoration work will be conducted round the clock.
Due to the gravity of the damage, we are in close coordination with the international consortium and will provide advisories the earliest possible date and time of restoration once this is established. Moreover, we are also exerting all possible means to establish alternate routes.
For those of you who are not familiar with the Asia-Pacific Cable Network (APCN), this is a major inter-ASEAN cable network that connects most of the major cities in this region to giant transpacific cable networks that in turn connect to major Internet markets like the US and Europe. Since, most of our external connectivity is depended on these transpacific cables major services like Internet connectivity, leased lines and long distance services will experience some form of disruption.
Fortunately, most services have already been re-routed to alternate cable newtorks (GPT, AGC, C2C, SEMEWE3 and others). It took some time for this to occur and Internet connectivity was sporadic for quite sometime.
