Apple and its iPhone: The Tale of Two Phones
The news is all over the place about Apple’s new iPod turned phone running MacOSX and with Tablet-like functionality. Personally, I love the concept of breaking off the mobile phone mold and moving into a new way of doing mobile phones. It supports a nice new button-less and stylus-less interface in the spirit of the iPod. Heck, it is even built on the widget model where application developers can build nice little widget (I still don’t know what development environment. I hope it is still Java). An interesting little widget is Google Maps. Hmm… Apple-Google merger? Now, this explains the big Apple team in Google.
But wait … take a look at this.

Which is which? Darn don’t they look similar. For those with Apple iPhone envy, this phone will be exclusive to Cingular (or shall we say AT&T wireless) for many years. Unless you are a Cingular subscriber, too bad.

Ah yes and after some additional reading this gadget is going to have Push IMAP from Yahoo! Also being a touchscreen system, there will be a big “after-sales” market for iPhone accessories such as screen protectors, covers, skins, dongles and many more.

Here is a site doing a side by side comparison of the iPhone and the FIC phone for those of you who are interested. Looks like it is possible to eventually clone the iPhone with the FIC platform.
