Apple iPhone and LG KE850: The Tale of Two Phones II

After getting sued by Cisco systems on the iPhone trademark, looks like Apple might get sues again. Here is an article last December 2006 on the LG KE850 which is rumored to be an Apple iPhone preview. Now we know it is all true.

From the few details available the KE850 appears to be based on a 240×400 touchscreen interface, with Send, End and Confirm being the only real buttons. Some also think that the KE850’s shape and color share lineage with LG’s Chocolate line of mobile phones (LG-SV590/KV5900/LP5900), so it could be one of those too.

So who copied who? Did LG and Apple come out with a product at the same time? Or did LG/Apple copy Apple/LG? Anyway, the good news is that people who cannot get a Cingular plan can actually buy a LG KE850 retail instead. A solution to iPhone envy!

seems unlikely.. some apple VP has confirmed that the iPhone runs a reduced-functionality Mac OS X off a 500MB flash disk. Somehow I doubt LG could pull that one off..

common orly. you know that it is not quite the “same” OS X inside the iPhone. it “may” use the same kernel. it “may” use the same scheduler, etc … but it is definitely not the same thing. for use, the UI interface is different. the hardware controllers and etc are also different. it is like the different between uclinux and linux. same linux but not quite the same.

besides, i have a blog post scheduled for tomorrow that will shed some light on this. keep posted!

Even if the iPhone is not out yet I believe there are people trying to sell covers, skins, connectors, adaptors and all sorts of widgets and accessories. Heck, even the clones have their iPod-like accessories too!

[…] It really pays to work for a company that provides room for creative investigation and experimentation as a matter of corporate principle. This way we get nice toys to play around with. A few weeks back our very first Apple iPhone arrived. Okay. A lot of people were enamored by its good looks and cool user interface. Believe, even I found it cool. A good number of people were also impressed by its new application development model (all applications are web-based), multi-touch screen and many other innovations by Apple. […]
