Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Rarely do I post about news that fall under two (2) topic categories on this blog. But, today is one of those rare moments. Again after the usual daily dose of personal, tech and political news updates, I bump into the formal announcement of the Linux Mobile Foundation. This foundation was annouced a few months […]

VMware 1.0.X for Linux Patch to Support Newer Linux Kernels

Friday, January 26th, 2007

After upgrading my Linux box to a newer version of Fedora, I noticed that my VMWare now refuses to build the networking kernel modules because of a problem with a networking checksum kernel define. My current platform is:

Linux Distribution: Fedora Core 6
Linux Kernel: 2.6.19-1.2895_1.fc6.cubbi_suspend2
VMWare Version: 1.0.1-29996

The fix is very well documented here. However, it is […]

I am not sure where I posted my previous links to the ffmpeg RPMs I built for Linux. But, here are the latest ones. I decided to build them at home when I noticed that the current revision number in the SVN repository is already about 500 revisions behind my copy. I created these copies […]

Microsoft is serious about Linux support?

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

If this is not a sign then I do not know what else is. Computerworld has this article about Microsoft signing up three (3) big companies in its Linux support program. Yes, you heard me - Linux Support! When I first heard about the Microsoft-Novell deal, I was not quite sure they were serious. But […]

Linksys and other vendors have already released MS Windows Mobile powered WiFi VoIP phones in the past. Check them out VoIP WiFi SIP Phone Black, VoIP WiFi SIP Phone Sliver and Linksys Cordless Internet Telephony Kit for Skype CIT200. Why just MS Windows Mobile? Then Belkin comes out with its Belkin Skype WiFi Phone. It […]

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

The last two (2) years was marked by major movements by voice providers and PBX equipment manufacturers to Linux. The most notable of that time was Avaya’s shift to a pure Linux platform. Now, one of the major players in the mobile equipment world is also moving towards Linux and that is Nokia. Here is […]

Fedora Core 6 on Dell Latitude 510

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

After hacking and tweaking again, it looks like Fedora Core 6 is so much easier to install on a Dell Latitude D510 than the previous incarnation of Fedora Core. It also looks much better too! Here are the new instructions. Even upgrading was relatively painless. Nice nice!

PhilOSC 2006: Talk on Securing Voice-over-IP

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

I just did a talk on securing voice-over-IP during this year’s Philippine Open Source Conference held at the EDSA Shangri-La, Mandaluyong City. The presentation is a bit technical and it does discuss the more common strategies for providing VoIP security.

Texmaker 1.4 RPM for Fedora Core 5

Sunday, September 3rd, 2006

I was looking for a texmaker RPM for Fedora Core 5. The only one I found was for version 1.3. However, I wanted version 1.4 which already has spell checking support. I looked around some more and found a nice texmaker 1.4 FC6 RPM. So I grabbed that and built it for FC5. Unfortunately, there […]
